Tibetan Dog Chew is a treat and is not intended to be fed as a meal. When treats are given, amount of food should be reduced accordingly. Yes, you heard it right, it is 100% Himalayan yak cheese made from the centuries old authentic recipe of the Tibetan monks. For generations, the recipe and the art of cheese making have been passed on to the local artisan farmers, living in the Himalayan foothills of Nepal. They are still using the traditional methods, utensils and tools to make our hard, longer lasting dog chews. Each of these Tibetan Dog Chews are uniquely handcrafted by the local artisan farmers and their production can take anywhere from 3 to 5 months!
The process starts with hand milking the pasture grazed yaks and cows. A human powered separator skims the cream away from the milk and then skimmed milk is used in making these high protein packed Tibetan Dog Chews.
Just like most other cheese making process the milk is boiled and pasteurized. Small amounts of lime juice and Himalayan rock salt are added to initiate the coagulation and curdling. The curd is then separated from whey in burlap sacks and squeezed underneath stone weight and a shaper for about 4 to 5 weeks. After that the cheese is cut and often hang dried and left for ripening under the sun and smoke for about 3 to 4 months. The irregularities in shape, size and color are the inherent nature of our limited ingredients chews.

When your dog is done chewing and a small piece is leftover, you can microwave it to make a crunchy cheese puff. Depending on the wattage power of your microwave, you can put it for about 40-60 seconds or until it puffs up like a popcorn and give it back to your dog after cooling it for at least 2 minutes.
